In honor of Alquan White. Alquan White was a toddler (around 2-3 years old) living with his father, Allen James, in New London, Connecticut. Rhode Island child protection agencies had asked Connecticut to check on his well-being. An attorney “acting as an intermediary” for the father told a DCF caseworker that the child was healthy. It appears the follow-up didn’t include a thorough in‐person check inside the father’s home, or a full investigation beyond the attorney’s statement. There were earlier reports of concerns (e.g. about medical care or neglect), but were not fully acted upon before the tragic outcome.
